::The number ONE thing for getting the most out of your motor:  BREAK IN YOUR BRUSHES!

:: Never abuse your motor by running battery packs back to back. Allow the motor to cool before you run it again.
:: Check your brushes for wear every 2 or 3 runs.
:: Keep your motor clean.
:: Make sure your gear ratio is correct. If the motor is hot after a run it is probably over geared and you may need to use a smaller pinion gear.
:: Use heavy brush springs to produce more torque.
:: Use soft brush springs to produce more rpm.
